Comcast Cable NEVER ceases to amaze me. I LIVE for the day that a broadband cable company comes in to compete with them. In my opinion, DSL doesn’t count. Just ask a number of their customers.
Anyway, I’ve been a personal “cost reduction” mission for the last several months. One of the things I do regularly is call my service providers and ask them for discounts. I’d be remiss if Comcast weren’t on my list.
When I called them 6 months ago, the customer service rep was MORE than great. It’s hard to believe she actually worked for them. She was the most friendly, accommodating rep I’d talked to in a long time. She ended the call with “I’ve got XX deal for you for the next 6 months, after it expires you can call back and see if we have any other deals to offer you.
My 6 months recently expired. Today was the day. The lucky customer service rep sounded like a mean old prune. You know…the typical Comcast service. She had a little “bite” in her voice and her intention was to be assertive and make sure I didn’t get another discount.
So the challenge began! I don’t think she knew that I was a customer service rep for several years. There are tricks of the trade, and I know them. After I insisted that she check further, she wasn’t happy, but finally put me on hold.
Lo and behold she came back with an even better deal for the next 6 months. But only after she gave me a very stern warning about “I’d have to wait 90 days after this offer expired in order to get another deal”. I’m sure she was shaking her finger at me as she was speaking.
It was worth it though. The deal was good. Unfortunately though, her nasty little attitude earned Comcast a RANT post in this blog.
Did I learn my lesson? Nope! After the current deal expires I’ll be calling back…even though she told me not to. After that, Comcast can decide whether they want my business or not.
Buckle your belt Comcast. The day WILL come when you’ve got a real competitor in the area. I can’t wait!
Let me ask you this…Who is your least favorite service provider?
